What is JSON and How to Format It: A Practical Guide
JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) is the universal data interchange format for modern web APIs, configuration files, and databases like PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
#
JSON Syntax Rules You Must Follow
1. **Keys Must Be Double-Quoted**: Single quotes `'key'` are invalid JSON syntax and will trigger parse errors. Always use `"key"`. 2. **No Trailing Commas**: Unlike modern JavaScript objects, trailing commas after the last array item or object key are strictly prohibited in standard JSON. 3. **Data Types**: JSON only supports strings, numbers, booleans (`true` / `false`), null, objects (`{}`), and arrays (`[]`). Functions and undefined values cannot be serialized into JSON.
